Wow, it's been a while. Here's what's going on:
- Mark's now six months old! Time flies. He's huge and adorable. Check out the gallery for new photos, including our first hiking trip in our new backpack carrier! (Okay, it was only to the local park, but hey. Plus, bonus photos of his first time in a real swing!)
- SpotDJ now has a Facebook app! Check it out and let me know what you think. I'm having a lot of fun using it as a personal jukebox during the day.
- I've upgraded my BlackBerry Pearl to the latest OS from T-Mobile, and now I'm unable to tether it to my Mac successfully - after one successful connect, it won't reconnect until I pull the battery to reset it. Cingular users have been reporting this for ages, but I couldn't reproduce it until now. Here's hoping there's a simple solution.
- DisableTextAds has been updated - I was contacted by the developers of the Lingospot inline ad system. They actually provided me with a simple hook for disabling their ads. Kudos to them for giving users the chance to opt out.
Tuesday was Mark's one month birthday! We've resisted the urge to get him a birthday cake, as 1) he can't eat it; and 2) the last thing we need is more sugar. Still, Mark's no longer a newborn at this point, which probably explains why most of his newborn clothes no longer fit. Luckily this growing process ends sometime in the next six to twelve months and we'll be able to keep him in the same clothes until he leaves for college. Right?
Hard as it is to believe, we're settling into a nice routine around Chez Goodale. I've gone back to work, where they've been nice enough to pretend I don't smell like sour milk and baby feces. It's a bit strange not having Mel and Mark around, but I'm enjoying interacting with adults again. I've even managed to avoid reflexively cleaning food off the faces of my co-workers.
Next week promises to be fun - my folks are coming into town Saturday, and we're headed down to L.A. on Wednesday to introduce Mark to his Great-Grandmother, as well as a couple of the college gang. If we have time, we'll probably stop by campus and see what sorts of baby wear we can deck him out in this coming football season. (Hey, we're in Tree/Dirty Bear territory - it's purely a defensive move.)
Please welcome Mark Jerome to the world!

Born February 6, 2007 at 1:48 PM, he's 21 inches long and weighed in at 8 lbs., 2 oz. at birth. Mom and boy are doing great - we're back from the hospital and all getting used to our new living arrangements. The Gatos are quite accepting of their new sibling, as you can see. Dad's just happy for some quiet time.

Many more photos can be found here, with updates every time I get enough sleep to operate a keyboard. You may now expect this blog to transform into the typical "new dad" blog for the foreseeable future, with ruminations on the nature of parenthood and proud, graphic descriptions of every one of my new son's achievements (and believe you me, most of his achievements in the first 72 hours of life require both medical terms and graphic description).
On a more serious note, I couldn't be more proud of Mark and his Mom. I was witness to something incredible on Tuesday, and watching the two of them (with the wonderful help of Doctor Gary Hoff and Nurse Laura) was an experience I doubt I'll ever equal.
And Mark. Wow, Mark. A good friend of mine with a lot of fatherly experience told me "You won't believe how fast you can fall in love." He was right.
