If you're a rabid early adopter like me, you've probably already installed Leopard and discovered that the original modem script doesn't work with the new OS. However, it's unlikely you then repackaged all of the modem scripts (BlackBerry 8100,8700 and 8800) into the new modem script format and made them available for download. If you did, why didn't you let me know?! You would have saved me a half-hour's worth of work. Sheesh, some people.

At any rate, if you're on Leopard and jonesing for a Bluetooth modem fix, here's what you do:

Download the new scripts. One download for all phone models!

Unzip that file into Macintosh HD:Library:Modem Scripts. The same location th old script lived. If successful, you should see a new directory named BlackBerry.ccl there.

Pair your phone as usual - when asked for the phone's Vendor and Model, choose 'Research in Motion' and whatever model of phone you have. I'm not a mind reader, you know.

The username, password and phone number fields should be filled in with the same values as before; namely, whatever is appropriate for your carrier. Check the forums if you're not sure.

That's it! I'd like to make an installer for this to make it even more seamless, but for now this should get you going. As always, let me know if you run into problems and I'll try to help.

Sell advertising, answers, something (the other readers will shoot me for this!), but you provide a great service. So, here's my question (and email me a bill!), I think I followed the instructions but as the Mac says "connecting...." it quickly goes to "disconnecting...". What gives? I used to be able to do this easily and often, but I had to replace my phone a couple of months ago and it has to be re-done with the new phone and I've never been able to get it to work again. Thanks Guru! Larry

Just upgraded from an 8800 to a 9700 involuntarily when the 8800 auto-bricked itself. Anyway, on OSX the setup that worked perfectly for years with the 8800 will not work at all. And suddenly, T-Mobile says, "well, we no longer officially support tethering a Blackberry."

I'll save the rant about that for another time. Right now, if ANYONE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD has gotten a 9700 to tether on T-Mobile on Mac OSX 10.5.x, email me.

Please do NOT email me with "when you find out, let me know, too." I have this specific config and if someone has a solution I have the power to broadcast it bigtime.

Again: if you are tethering a Blackberry 9700 to Mac OSX 10.5.x, tell me how. Where'd you get the scripts, since the blackberry.ccl won't work any more for me, and T-Mobile has washed their hands of the only reason I use TM.

Hi. I must preface this by saying I am completely computer illiterate. I am trying to tether my T-Mobile Blackberry 8100 to my Powerbook G4 computer (with is running on MAC OS X version 10.5.8), and I cannot figure out how to do that. I have downloaded the script, and have that in my modem scripts folder. On the forums it gives me a step by step how to do this, but once it gets to the place where I am to select the script from the folder, I do not have this option. My set up wizard just tells me that I can now use my device to access the internet, but does not allow me to chose the script to run. As a result, my Blackberry and my computer are paired, but not connected and I cannot get them to connect. I do have the little phone icon and when I click on it I can ask it to connect the internal modem, but it tells me the connection has failed and I need to verify my settings. Please help! Thank you so very much!!!

I have the first Blackberry Pearl 8100 and a Macbook Pro. I have figured out how to tether it to my Mac (both with OS X 10.4 and after upgrading to 10.5) as a modem via bluetooth back in the states with ATT/Cingular. Thanks to the info found here: http://www.fibble.org/

I'm now living in Bali, Indonesia and I've managed to get it working with the local provider Indosat. I'm still using the same script provided by fibble.org with the settings Research In Motion and Blackberry 8100 when I configure my bluetooth device on the Mac. However Indosat doesn't want me to tether...here's the details...

In order to have unlimited data on my phone I had to send a text message, "bis2" (which stands for Blackberry Internet Service 2) to 882 in order to have unlimited data for the month. This is after paying 200,000IDR (about $22USD) to sign up for this unlimited service of which 40,000IDR was taken immediately. Every month, before this "unlimited" service expires, Indosat is supposed to send me a message alerting me to recharge before it expires. This involves paying 160,000IDR (~17USD) before the expire date.

I used the info I found here as a starting point to get the correct provider WAP info:
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html

I had to hack at it a bit to get my computer to connect to Indosat's PPP and found that the following settings worked, however the data wasn't free. This is after the people who took the money told me I can't tether it at all.

Network
Telephone Number: indosatgprs
Account Name: indosatgprs
Password: guest

Bluetooth Mobile Phone Setup
Phone Vendor: Research in Motion (script from fibble.org ..thanks!!)
Phone Model: BlackBerry 8100
Username:
Password:

When setting up the bluetooth
APN:
CID: 1

After my money ran out from using the data on the phone I was disconnected. I tried to reconnect and it goes through the usual steps: Connecting..., Authenticating... and it connects briefly before I get the error message:

Internet Connect
The connection was terminated by the remote site. Please try again.

I realize this is likely because I don't have any more credit on my phone. I am able to continue surfing the internet ON MY PHONE as part of the unlimited plan but I am no longer able to tether it.

I have looked at the script from fibble.org and tried several hacks but can't seem to get around this.

There must be a way for my computer to use the data stream from my phone without Indosat knowing...researching this topic...will post a solution if I find an answer...
